  2. I have just returned home from watching one of the most poignantly touching films I have seen in a very long time that truly captures the essence of ‘coming out’ but from the perspective of being black. Told in 3 chapters from boyhood, to teenager, through to a young adult I found the story in each chapter paralleled my own ‘coming out’ story in part.

The story by Tarell Alvin McCraney is beautifully crafted and the pace is just so right it makes it all the more believable. The acting performances by all of the cast members just stands out. I cannot decide on who was the best because they all were so great and downright believable. I came away wanting more…..this story has only just begun because I feel it needs to tell the rest of my life story even if it is set a million miles away from London where I live!

This film is far more deserving of every award possible and if I hear about LaLa Land being the best film in an age….just one more time after seeing Moonlight tonight….then as the line from my favourite Blaxploitation flick ‘Cleopatra Jones’ goes…….it’ll be “about half a second off somebodies arse!”

If you haven’t seen it….then go…you won’t be disappointed. If you are then you are not of this world!
