You can support BLKOUTUK by making a donation, supporting our events, or contacting us to discuss partnerships. Look out for announcements about our summer programme and opportunities to work with us #makingspaceforus Excited about the creative lab for younger Black Trans men and non-binary (18-25). Don't want anyone to miss out so make sure to get in touch before the deadline this Monday Aaron Douglas, 1899- 1979 #makingspaceforus 'Be like water' - none of us are members of the first (or most likely, the last) generation of Black and/or queer people to need to change the world and our society in order to be free. At Brunch (29 May) our theme for the day will explore is how we understand and use our power. It's #MentalHealthAwarenessWeek and we know that the weathering effects of systemic racism and patriarchal masculinity intersect to drive patterns of alienation and despair for too many of us - associating our queer and Black identities (separately and together) with risk of poor mental health, as well as less effective services in responding to our health needs.. The revolution in communication information and media has changed the way we access knowledge. It has also raised our ambitions for how we archive our stories and share our reality with the future. Great to see @queerbritain open last week, and @bcaheritage continue to innovate, while mainstream organisations reinterpret what mainstream means. This month at #BlackMenWhoBrunchLDN among the usual mix of chat, music, and network building, we'll be trying to get a grip on how powerful we are individually and together. Sometimes the most transformative acts seem deceptively simple. This coming week be intentional about self care, and do something in support of another Black queer man, expecting nothing in return. I dare you. Miss J photographed by Bill Bernstein, New York 1979
